Asked for 2026-10-09. The dialog as it stands (screenshots taken in Glass at 390px and Modern and Classic on a desktop):

  • One column of label, box and paragraph of grey text, eight times, all the same weight. On a phone it runs to three screens, and Save is at the bottom of the third.
  • What decides what lands on disk, how many of the newest items download, is a bare number box whose meaning (blank, a number, 0) is in bold small print underneath. Whether anything downloads at all is a checkbox further down, and the number, the keywords and the explicit box only matter when it is on.
  • Yours against everyone's, the structure of the whole thing, is said in a sentence at the top and "(shared)" after two labels.
  • Keywords and hidden words are one text box each, comma separated, where a phrase and the next run together.
  • The note on a feed from an OPML still says saving gives it an entry in config.toml, from before the catalogue moved into the database.

Wanted: the download choice said in this show's own terms, yours and everyone's apart at a glance, word lists as words, Save always in reach, in every theme and on a phone.

Mockups for approval. They are screenshots of a working prototype, on the branch feed-settings-redesign (not merged, not deployed), against a scratch server with a made-up show of 60 episodes. Nothing ships until you say.

The layout

├───────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ [×] [✓] │ always in reach; the rest scrolls
└───────────────────────────────────────────────┘

What changes

  • Download automatically comes first, as a switch. How many, the keywords and explicit only ever applied to automatic downloads, so they hang beneath it and fold away when it is off.
  • How many is three choices, Default (the server's, 3 here), Newest and All, said as a sentence in the show's own numbers. Above the sentence, a strip of the show's newest 40 items, each bar as tall as the episode is long, lit where it downloads on its own. Text-only posts are short ticks and take no place, as the server counts them. Dragging along the strip sets Newest. All now really means all (#166).
  • Keywords and hidden words are chips: Enter or a comma adds one, its × or Backspace takes it off.
  • Yours and everyone's: everything above the box is yours; the box is the feed's own, one copy for everyone. Someone who is not an admin sees only its address, with a copy button, and "Only an admin changes these".
  • Cancel and Save stay in a footer while the rest scrolls. On a phone, Save was three screens down.
  • Every theme keeps its own colours; nothing is added to any palette. Switches are drawn as iOS draws them, except in Classic, which keeps the 2004 app's checkboxes.
  • The note on a feed from an OPML no longer says saving gives it an entry in config.toml.

Before: Glass on a phone, then Modern on a desktop.

before-glass-phone before-modern-desk

After

  1. Glass on a phone, as it opens:
after-1-glass-dark-phone
  1. Newest 8, with two keywords and a hidden word:
after-2-glass-dark-newest
  1. Glass light, with downloading switched off:
after-3-glass-light-off
  1. Someone who is not an admin:
after-4-glass-dark-member
  1. Modern on a desktop:
after-5-modern-dark-desk
  1. Classic on a desktop, Newest 8:
after-6-classic-desk
  1. Modern light, All:
after-7-modern-light-all

For you to decide

  1. The episode strip, the one bold thing in it: keep it, or a plain number?
  2. Switches rather than checkboxes (Classic keeps checkboxes).
  3. Chips for the word lists.
  4. Anything to cut, move or say differently.

Say yes as it is, or what to change, and I'll finish it: the browser tests for it, then merge and deploy.

Approved as mocked and done in ecbc253, with a browser test for the strip, the chips, the fold and a save that holds. Deployed as 0.10.3-dev.

Follow-up in 4c1d230: the address moved to the top with its copy button (an admin can still edit it, for a feed that moved), and the shared box with the folder and Directory category is gone from the dialog. Deployed as 0.10.3-dev.
