The site-icon lookup from #70 runs only when a scan gets the feed's body. Feeds that answer 304 to their stored ETag/Last-Modified never reach it, so an existing feed with no artwork stays blank until the publisher next posts. Example: anildash.com/feed.xml (last post 2026-09-11), whose site names /favicon.svg and /images/apple-touch-icon.png. 69 feeds had no image after the deploy. A forced scan does not help: it skips the interval, not the validators.

Fixed in 2004da3: a feed whose image was never looked for is refetched once without validators, and a miss is stored as an empty string so neither repeats. anil-dash now has https://www.anildash.com/favicon.svg. Deployed.
