The Caddyfile has no encode directive: /api/feeds (108 KB) and a page of /api/entries (125 KB) go out the same size whether or not the browser accepts gzip, measured 2026-10-15. JSON shrinks several times over; it matters most on a phone over the tunnel. Compress with zstd and gzip, leaving out the live-update stream (/api/events) and /media.

Fixed in 8f19d88, deployed in ipx-web 1.0.3-dev: encode zstd gzip, leaving out /api/events and /media. Live: /api/feeds 108,463 bytes plain, 13,987 gzip, 13,797 zstd; a page of /api/entries 125,528 to 38,210 with gzip. The event stream and the DeadAir playlist go out uncompressed. All 74 browser tests pass through it.
